Get Involved With Refugees

It's up to us

As the refugee population in Idaho grows, so do we. A key step in making the new members of our community feel welcome is providing them with the same compassion and empathy that we give to others. This is the hospitable spirit that we as Idahoans extend to our neighbors, friends, and family. It is important to remember that refugees are people above all else, and have most likely been permanently displaced from their home.

Get involved locally

The following is a list of what you can do locally to get involved with refugees:

  • Learn - Take the time to read about what is happening in another country.

  • Speak Up - If your community has or will be welcoming refugees, engage and treat them with the same respect and dignity you would anyone else.

  • Speak Out - Misinformation about the resettlement process can be very dangerous and alter people's perspectives on refugees. Do your part and stand up against lies spread to divide people.

  • Co-Sponsor - If possible, contact a local resettlement agency to sponsor an individual or family by helping them get integrated into to the community.

  • Volunteer - Support local efforts to aid in the resettlement process.

  • Donate
